Jwano Ko Jhol “ज्वानोको झोल”- Homemade Soup To Increase Lactation, Pospartum Healing & More | Episode: 5

This video shows you how to make Thyme (aka Ajwain/Carom Seeds) Soup (“Jwano Ko Jhol” – ज्वानोको झोल).

It is one of the must have spices in Nepali kitchen. Due to its Ayurvedic (medicinal) benefits, it has been used for centuries.

Along with fiber, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants; its oil has antiseptic characteristics.

There is a tradition in Nepal to serve this soup to help new moms with postpartum healing, rebuild and increase their breast milk supply.

It is served as a homemade medicine to cure symptoms like body-ache, cold and cough, menstrual and stomach pain.

It’s easy and only requires few ingredients; so anyone can make it.

Here are my ingredients. Again, adjust per your taste or dish size.
1 teaspoon thyme seeds
1 tablespoon pure cow ghee (clarified butter)
1 teaspoon minced ginger
1 tablespoon minced garlic
1 pinch turmeric powder
1 teaspoon cumin and coriander powder
Salt, according to your taste. I’m using Himalayan salt today.
2 tablespoon rice flour
2 cup lukewarm water

WARNING: If you have common cold or flu, SKIP cow ghee (clarified butter), rice flour and garlic from your recipe. Simply boil the remaining ingredients to make this soup.

After your pan is hot, add Ghee and then Thyme Seeds. Stir. If you like oily, add more ghee.
Don’t fry for too long, otherwise it will burn.
Add Garlic then stir.
Ginger and fry.
Add turmeric powder and then stir till it turns red.
Add rice flour and then cumin-coriander powder.
Stir-fry for about 2-minutes.
Add water
Salt next and keep stirring.
You can enhance the taste by adding rice-water, vegetable or chicken broth.
Boil it for about 3-minutes. Keep stirring.

Jwano Ko Jhol is now ready! It feels like thick soup. You can serve as soup or with white rice.
