Satya Harischandra (सत्य हरिश्चन्द्र) was the first ever Nepali-language movie. It was released in 1951 in Darjeeling, India, and was produced by D. B. Pariyar.

1964

Aama (आमा) (Mother in English) is the first movie produced in Nepal, starring Shiva Shankar Manandhar and Bhubhan Chand (Thapa). The movie was produced by the Information Department of the Nepalese Government (Sahi Nepal Chalchitra Sansthan) and released on October 7, 1964. Late King Mahendra asked Indian director Hira Singh Khatri to direct this movie.
