Haritalika Tij/Teej तीज

Teej is one of the greatest festival of Nepal.  It is celebrated by all Hindus women in Nepal, India and around the world.  Teej is also known as Tij, Haritalika and Hariyali Parva.  It is dedicated to Goddess Parvati remembering her union with Lord Shiva.  This day is also designated as a public holiday for women.

Hindu women celebrate this festival for their husbands longevity, martial happiness, purification of their body and soul, and well-being of their family.  This unique festival is an opportunity for both men and women to strengthen their relationship.  It’s a three-day-long celebration by both girls and married women.
A Royal Dish for Teej – तीजको दर:

It is celebrated with women in red saris dancing and singing on the street, going to temples, feasting and rigid fasting.  It generally falls in late August or early September.  Teej also celebrates arrival of monsoon after a season of summer heat.
